Full Colour Process

Full Colour Process is a printing term. Our printer achieve this by blending four primary colours (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) to achieve the final inidivdual colour. It is commonly referred to as CMYK or Full Colour Process. This combination of four colours can produce millions of individual tones and therefore possible to reproduce a huge range of colours to match your printing needs.

Spot Colour

Spot Colour printing is a more precise way of printing, this is completed by mixing inks to a standardised specification to produce a specific colour. These colours are more commonly known as Pantones. Colours produced are matched to a swatch book which all printers hold. Using this method, a more consistant print can be achieved, which is why it is widely used in promotional printing as colour matching to company brand guidelines is incredibly important.

Laser Engrave

Laser engraving is exactly what it says it is, using a laser to engrave deatils onto a product. We use this on most of our real wood and bamboo products. Laser engraving is a precise method that takes a fair amount of calibration to control the intensity of the engrave. If the laser is too weak then it only produce a fine detailing; If the laser is too strong then it can burn the product causing a burnt unattractive finish, which is why we make sure to have well trained machine operators so that the product finish is completed to our very high standards.

Made in Britain

Made in Britain is an organisation that supports British manufacturers under a registered collective mark. This mark is used on all of our products as we try to uphold to the standards of this organisation.

Widely Recycled

We have used this term for products that we know can be widely recycled, whether that be in your home or office recycling bins or at recycling centres organised by your local council.

Zero Air Miles

We buy as locally as we can and if UK supply is not possible we prefer European supply to further afield. By sea shipping materials where necessary from the furthest destinations in basic sheet form, much less container volume is required than finished product. For example, 1 pallet of 100 sheets of 5mm thick bamboo occupies a fairly small space in a shipping container but that 1 pallet makes tens of thousands of items which would take up way more container space with all the packaging as well. Lower sea freight volume leads to less shipping required and a lower carbon footprint.

Carbon Neutral

The direct meaning of carbon neutral is something that has not net release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, we do this by our carbon offsetting scheme. You can find out more about it here. Carbon Offset Scheme.

The 3 Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Traditional manufacturing is described as linear, where natural resources are turned into products that ultimately become landfill – often summarised as take, make, waste. We believe however that we have a responsibility for the whole life cycle of our products, all the way from design to end of useful life and beyond – a circular manufacturing model. But we also go further than that as we are turning waste into thousands of trees and tonnes of carbon reduction. More information can be found here at our Circular Economy Project

Plastics Free Packaging

Completely plastic free & sustainable packaging system that is made from 100% recycled card (with FSC recycled certification) without using harmful whitening agents. It can be easily recycled in any office and is carefully designed to improve the presentation of the products at no additional cost.

Biodegradable Material

This refers to a material that has the ability to disintergrate / decompose and the end of its useful life so it can once again assimilate back into the natural environment. All of our bamboo products are bidegradable as an example.

Recycled Material

Recycled materials are materials that would otherwise become waste but instead are collected, separated or processed and repurposed as other forms of raw materials or products e.g. Our Keepsafe antimicrobial name badges and the backs of our window badges and button badges (55mm Safety CLip and 75mm Pin Backed).

Part Recycled Material

Part recycled material referes mainlt to our aluminium products. Aluminium is infinitely recycled and can be reformed endlessly whilst retaining its material properties indefinitely. Recycling aluminium saves about 90% of the energy it takes to make new aluminium as well as helping to reduce the demand for mining the bauxite ore needed to produce new aluminium.

Sustainable Material

Sustainable material are materials that can be produced in required volumes without depleting non-renewable resources. All of our wood and bamboo products are sustainable materials. More information on where we get these materials can be found here.

Not Widely Recycled

Not Widely Recycled appears on very few of our products, but generally it means that the product contains materials that can only be recycled at less than 20% of local councils, this restriction usually means that the product / material usually end up in land-fill.

Reusable Product

This refers to our window badges and blackboard badges which can be passed on to new people / staff and be reused. A more sustainable option compared to personalised plastic name badges which can only be used by one person.

Tree Planting Scheme

Trees are important to us all and when we first started making wooden products our factory became corporate members of The Woodland Trust in the UK to help create, restore and protect the UK’s woodlands as we felt that was the right thing to do for a company working with wood.

We want to do so much more though for parts of the world where deforestation has already lead to serious and life threatening problems from erosion and soil quality to air quality and the loss of wildlife corridors. It’s not just the land that is affected though, the disappearance of coastal Mangroves has led to a huge reduction in nursery areas for fish which adversely affects our rivers and oceans and so much more – we simply need more trees, everywhere and as quickly as possible.

Carbon Offsetting Scheme

As we all know, there’s simply too much CO2 in the air causing global warming at life threatening levels now and something must be done about this – and fast.

Whilst our tree planting scheme is a longer term initiative, as it simply takes time for trees to grow and make a real difference, we also want to support projects that are happening right now to reduce carbon emissions – hence this carbon offset scheme as well as planting trees.
